My name is Allison Love and I am from a small town just north of Birmingham, Alabama called Trussville. Before beginning college, I was a camp counselor at Riverview Camp for Girls in Mentone, AL. This is where my love for serving others stems from and where I decided that I wanted to pursue a college major that educated me on adolescents and young adults. I started college in the fall of 2014 at Auburn University. After changing my major a few times, I was able to find the fit for me. This fit was in the College of Human Sciences, studying Human Development and Family Studies. I quickly grew to love this major and the faculty and staff behind it. One class that still stands out to me is adolescent development with Dr. Di. The research paper I wrote for her course can be found under the Education tab. I moved on from researching depression in adolescents to bullying in schools across the state of Alabama. My junior year I was given the opportunity to work as an undergraduate research assistant under Dr. Adrienne Duke in the College of Human Sciences. Through this position, I was able to research and speak at the Engagement Scholarship Conference in Birmingham, AL in September 2017. I also worked close with the graduate assistant, Jessica Norton, which we researched and wrote a publication together. Throughout college I was also able to work very closely with the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness Services conducting student outreach. During the academic year of 2017 I was the director of the student led health ambassador program. Once I completed my role, the director of the office, Eric Smith, offered me an internship. Through this position, I was able to become Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) gatekeeper training certified. After four years of undergraduate work, I will be obtaining my bachelor’s degree in HDFS with a minor in Psychology. My current professional goal is to obtain a master’s degree with career aspirations of working in higher education. Each of the experiences listed above, and others included in my ePortfolio have all contributed to my professional goals in their own specific ways. I am now equip with skills that will flourish in graduate school.
